The reason I love film is because it can inspire you. It can keep you company, give you promise, entertain you in a hospital bed, bring you together with someone you’d otherwise fight with, make you laugh, open your eyes, teach you something, show you the world, make you feel less alone because someone else had the same feelings, and so much more.
Here are some of my favourite quotes:
The Fault in Our Stars
You know, I want more numbers than I’m likely to get. And, God, do I want more days for Augustus Waters than what he got.
But, Gus, my love, I cannot tell you how thankful I am, for our little infinity.
Everything ends badly, otherwise it wouldn’t end
I never want to be like my parents. I know they must’ve loved each other at one time, right? How do you trust your feelings when they can just disappear like that?
You know, some parents, when they’re angry, they get along much better when they don’t live together…Sometimes they get back together. And sometimes they don’t, dear. And if they don’t, don’t blame yourself
Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine
Kevin: Can I bring my cat to work? He has terrible anxiety problems.
Abby: Oh, I’d love to let you bring your cat to work, but I have a terrible cat allergy.
Kevin: I don’t have a cat. He’s a dog. His name is My Cat.
Abby: You named your dog My Cat?
Kevin: Mike Hat.
Erin: First name Mike, last name Hat?
Kevin: Well, his full name is Michael Hat.
Problem is, you’re not happy being sad. That’s what love is, Cosmo… happy sad.
Bridge of Spies
(On being asked if he’s worried)
Would it help?
She’s the Man
Justin: Could you be a girl for just 5 seconds
Viola: Ok…First of all it’s not a stupid soccer issue and…you’re a jerk. Oh look at that, times up.
(Slaps him in the face)
But for now, let me say – Without hope or agenda – Just because it’s Christmas – And at Christmas you tell the truth – To me, you are perfect
Aubrey: What’s your name?
Fat Amy: Fat Amy.
Aubrey: You call yourself Fat Amy?
Fat Amy: Yeah, so twig bitches like you don’t do it behind my back.
5 to 7
I had a long time to consider the value of memory, and the idea that just because something doesn’t last forever, doesn’t mean its worth is diminished. Maybe it was just a rationalisation – easier on the soul than mourning what might have been – the life unlived. I honestly don’t know, but I chose to believe in memory. I chose to believe in her. I chose to believe that the bond was never broken and that we carried each other in our hearts. As a secret singularity.
500 Days of Summer
For Tom Hansen, this was the night where everything changed. That wall Summer so often hid behind – the wall of distance, of space, of casual – that wall was slowly coming down. For here was Tom, in her world… a place few had been invited to see with their own eyes. And here was Summer, wanting him there. Him, no one else
He’s not the Messiah! He’s a very naughty boy!
Something’s Gotta Give
Listen to me… you cannot hide from love for the rest of your life because maybe it won’t work out and maybe you’ll become unglued. That’s not a way to live.
No Strings Attached
Emma: I know this is random. I just, um, I miss you. I miss you so much
Adam: Ok. I don’t know what to say. You’re calling me because you’re at your sister’s wedding and she looks happy and everyone is happy and you’re not.
Emma: I thought. I don’t know what I thought. I guess I wanted to hear your voice. I mean I know we broke up but.
Adam: Emma, we didn’t break up. We never started. Look, I gotta go. I’m still at work. Have fun at the wedding and tell your sister congratulations for me. Bye
I know you can dance alone, I know you’ll be fine. You’re always fine. You got good at being strong for me. But i’m telling you be hurt – I can take it. The world can take it
Have a wonderful weekend. Don’t forget to watch Elle at your local cinema if you get the chance.
